El pedal de sustain en Di Sarli / The sustain pedal in Di Sarli

(English)
Hello tango friends!
Few people know the importance that the sustain pedal has on the piano and especially in tango, and even more so in Carlos Di Sarli’s style. If we’re talking about Carlos Di Sarli, there’s a key element that really helps us understand his style, and that element is the use of the sustain pedal. The sustain pedal is there, on the piano, at your feet, to the right of the instrument, and it’s the part in charge of lifting up the dampers, which make the strings stop vibrating. In other words, if a note is played and the pedal is pressed, the dampers will move away from the strings and the strings will keep resonating until they can’t any longer. That sound can last a long, long time. And if anyone took this idea of taking advantage of the sustain pedal’s sonority and making part of his sound, appropriating it, to define part of his style, it was the great Carlos Di Sarli. Let’s dive right in and see how Di Sarli used the sustain pedal in his orchestra. Here we go. I hope you enjoy it!
